DAYS OF REFRESHMENT

Spring brings refreshment and so did the AMA board when they arrived for their annual visit. They encouraged us and helped to refocus on eternal values when the going gets tough and wearisome. They interviewed each household including the 2 single girls, Rosalie Beiler and Kathryn Hostetler. One evening the whole compound was treated to an evening out at Kiboko Bay Restaurant. What a delight to the young and old! This was taken in our carport one evening. The board visiting Kenya this time was Alvin and Lily Stoltzfus with son Nathan and Philip and Sue Ann Beachy. Also pictured are Ben and Regina Stoltzfus. Their purpose in coming was to give John Glick his bishop charge. John will assist and eventually replace Merle Beachy. Since Lloyd and Beth Beiler had just previously visited we heard remarks like, "Gina is so like Beth". Sisters can be like that! :)
They native pastors came in to meet the board. In our 8 Kisumu churches, there are 14 ordained/commissioned pastors. They need your prayers. The work is heavy and the needs are many. There are many asking for more outreaches......who will come and help teach and train? Some call this group the "salt and pepper" (white and black) team of Kenya. The camera's lighting focus on taking a mixed group picture is difficult. Either the Kenyans are black blobs or the Americans are washed out. One evening around Valentine's Day, our 8 compound youth invited us to a formal "You are special" dinner. There was much secretive scurrying around. Dishes were disappearing and food was being made and transported we weren't sure where..... The boys were washing the vans, blacking the tires and hanging upholstery on the inside to cover the windows. We were to report at our individual gates at 5:00PM. With Jason and Martina driving the 2 vans, they blindly took us outside the compound a few miles then through some bumpy woods country. We ended up driving into Impala Park a back way and arrived at the large, new gazebo that was recently built there. Wow! They did more work then we realized! The red carport I recognized from our living room floor. We were treated to an appetizer, then had a full course meal of grilled pork chops topping it off with homemade ice cream. The youth then sang 2 meaningful songs for us. It truly was special! A Masai guard lurked around in the shadows. Afterall it was quite a secluded area.

Merle and Sue Beachy, Sam and Mattie Kauffman, Martin and Kristy Bender, Tommy and Marji Wagler, Ivan and Kay Peachey, John and Barbara Glick, Joseph and Becky Hostetler Kathryn Hostetler, Abigail Peachey, Monica Kauffman, Rosalie Beiler and Martina Kauffman Matthias Peachey, Jason Peachey and Daniel Kauffman This past week we met with the Nakuru mission and had the annual pastor's meetings. This also included all natives (and their wives), making it a total of 18 Kenyan pastors. We enjoyed listening to various ones give their views and values. The rains have come! In Kenya where you live off the land, it means food for man and beast alike.
